Summary:
The Line Locator is responsible for locating water mains, water service lines and wastewater lines gravity and force mains.
What you’ll do:
- Analyze blueprints to determine where construction projects will take place
- Use magnetic, radar and electrical equipment to locate lines
- Utilize GPS or surveying equipment to pinpoint coordinates of lines
- Perform calculations to arrive at the depth of lines
- Prepare diagrams and sketches that show the location of lines
- Compile gathered data and prepared images into professional reports
- Inspect areas following the completion of renovations or new construction to check utility lines
- Participate in planning or inspection meetings to present findings
- Complete other duties as assigned
What you bring:
- 1+ years line locating experience
- Must possess valid Indiana driver’s license with a safe driving record
- Able to operate various equipment including electronic surveying line locating equipment
- Knowledge and familiarity with Indiana “Dig Law” IAC 8-1-26
- Knowledge of general highway control standards and OSHA safety regulations
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with contractors, staff, and community members
- Proficiency in record-keeping and reporting software, with attention to accuracy and detail
- Ability to work independently and make informed decisions in a variety of field and office environments
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and adherence to safety protocols
- Regularly required to stand, walk, and use hands and arms
- Occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, or crawl
- Work in outdoor weather conditions, including extreme heat or cold, and near moving mechanical parts
- Must occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds
