About the Role
The Metering Service and Maintenance Tech reports to the Operation Manager within the Water Distribution department. The core purpose is to record utility meter readings on time for the billing department, process billing edits service orders, repair broken meters, misc. repairs, and support other departments as needed. No supervisory responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Accurately read electric and water meters.
  • Install water meters, meter heads, and radio units for new customers, and replace faulty units efficiently.
  • Perform meter pit and valve maintenance.
  • Troubleshoot meters and identify the correct fixes.
  • Maintain equipment and handle returns/warranty issues with vendors.
  • Assist with hydrant flushing on the north and south water systems.
Qualifications and Skills
  • High school diploma or GED, or one to three months of related experience/training, or an equivalent combination.
  • Mechanical aptitude and the ability to multi-task at a moderate pace.
  • Prior meter reading experience helpful.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and smartphone apps; able to learn GIS equipment.
  • Basic math (including rates, ratios, percentages, and bar graphs) and clear written/verbal communication with customers and coworkers.
Work Conditions

  • Frequent walking, standing, reaching, and use of hands; periodic stooping, kneeling, climbing, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Regular outdoor work in all weather conditions.
  • Exposure to moderate noise and risk of electrical shock.
  • Must be available, Monday - Friday, 7:00 am - 3:30 pm (up to 30 hours)
